Will Writing Service: Make Sure Your Wishes Are Followed

Without a will, the law decides who receives your home, your savings and your possessions. The result is frequently not what the family expected, and it cannot be argued with afterwards.

Free, no obligation, and no credit check to get started.

Whole of life insurance with cover that lasts a lifetime
Unmarried partners inherit nothing by defaultHowever long you have lived together.

Dying without a will means dying intestate, and the intestacy rules are rigid. They do not know that you and your partner never married, or that you wanted your sister to look after the children.

A will is a short piece of work that removes a great deal of avoidable difficulty later.

What Happens Without One

  • An unmarried partner has no automatic right to inherit anything, regardless of how long you were together.
  • A married partner may not receive everything, as children can be entitled to a share above a set threshold.
  • The courts decide who looks after minor children, rather than you.
  • Stepchildren you raised have no automatic entitlement.
  • Sorting the estate takes longer and costs the family more.

The GOV.UK guide to making a will sets out the intestacy position.

What a Will Should Cover

  • Who inherits what, in clear terms.
  • Guardians for children under 18, which is the single most important clause for young families.
  • Executors, the people who will actually administer everything.
  • Any specific gifts or charitable legacies.
  • Funeral wishes, so nobody has to guess.

Wills and Life Cover Together

These belong in the same conversation. A life policy written in trust pays directly to the people you name, quickly and usually outside your estate. A will directs everything else. Doing one without the other leaves a gap.

The most common oversight we see

A family has good life cover and no will, or a will and no trust on the policy. Either way the money reaches the family more slowly than it should, at exactly the wrong moment.

Keeping It Up to Date

Marriage generally revokes an existing will in England and Wales, which catches people out. Divorce, a new child, buying property or a death among your beneficiaries are all reasons to review. A read through every five years is sensible.

For a straightforward estate, a properly drafted will is usually sufficient. For complex estates, business assets or likely disputes, involve a solicitor.

Say so early. Foreign property may need a separate will in that country, and the interaction between the two needs care.

You can, and homemade wills are a frequent source of family disputes because of small drafting or witnessing errors that cannot be corrected later.
